Ocean City Summer of '68 - Case's Pork Roll

It was the summer of 1968. I spent the summer at my parent’s house in Ocean City. My friend, Nancy Shumer was my roomate that summer. She was a freshman at Penn State Ogontz campus with me the past year. I lost track of Nancy, have no idea where she is today! I actually did not even remember her name, but I had it written on the back of the photo. We stayed at my parent’s OC home for the summer, and some weekends, my parents came down. It was a strange summer.

Nancy landed a job at Shriver’s. I ended up working at Case’s Pork Roll. Sounds pretty gross, huh? Actually, it was a type of fast food restaurant on the Ocean City Boardwalk. I think it was located between 8th and 9th streets. Case’s Pork Roll was owned by the same guy who owned the Chatterbox. Case’s was open for lunch and dinner, and we served hamburgers, hotdogs and Case’s Pork Roll sandwiches. Ok, the Pork Roll sandwiches tasted pretty much the same as hot dogs that were shaped like a hamburger and they were actually pretty good. We also served French Fries. I totally remember grossing an old guy out when he ordered Iced Tea and we were out of lemons and I tried to push off lime slices…He got mad and just left…Opps! No tip!

My eyes are closed in this picture! I still have that problem with pictures! Here’s a picture of me at the snazzy Case’s Pork Roll restaurant on the boardwalk! Eyes open this time. Here’s a picture taken inside my parent’s OC house. It was those hazy crazy lazy days of summer and we had flowers on the wall everywhere-Oh the 60’s. That is my sweet niece, Vickie on the couch looking at me like I’m crazy in the house in my 60’s raincoat and hat! Here’s a picture of my roommate Nancy and me in our cool room we shared the summer of ’68. Yes that is a poster of Omar Shariff on the wall! And yes we were in our PSU t-shirts over our swim suits!
