Happy 4th of July - The Woodlands, TX
During the early days of The Woodlands, Independence Day, included the local parade, festivities and fireworks and was a very special event. When we moved to The Woodlands in 1977, there were 2,500 people. There are now over 95,000. So much has changed, but the fun early memories remain.
In the "Olden" days of The Woodlands, the festivities after the parade were simple. One year, I organized a Water Balloon toss, another friend organized canoe races at lake near the Warf. The Warf is now gone-replaced by a Shell Conference center. The fireworks were set off on the golf course-it was such a fun event. You used to always know the people who sat around you on the grass.
The 4th of July parade and festivities are now HUGE, organized by The Woodlands executives. The 4th of July celebration in The Woodlands has become very commercial, and it’s always so stinking hot! I’m going to the pool this year and skip the parade! The fireworks have been cancelled this year because of the drought, so it’s not going to be as spectacular. But some great memories remain of the early days living in a fun community.
Here are some pictures from the 80’s from the 4th of July Parades in The Woodlands, TX. Great memories! It was so fun decorating the bikes. The worst part of being in the parade was waiting in the hot humid TX weather, waiting your turn to ride down the street. Wish I had more pictures.
